The Mapmaker is a film about a suicide. It is a series of assumptions after the fact - it is told in still images linked to a prose narration. The film explores a hostile environment and makes some presumptions of the thought processes of the woman as she proceeds to her self termination. Forensic, cold, painful and ultimately voyeuristic. "If she were still walking I wouldn't turn my head".

very good film. sad, no, tragic. irony is that while overwhelming figures of people who commit suicide are male, it is often the tale of a female which captures people's attention. the untold story within this film is the story of the guy with his dog. its his death - by suicide or otherwise - that's left implicit. a very sensitive work.

Wonderful work from this film maker. Have watched the films they have on Vodo and have enjoyed all of them. This is a striking film with punch and bite. A slow start but builds to a very effective and accomplished piece. Really well made with a lot of style.

I was really surprised with how engaging the film is from the beginning. The length is perfect, the photography made sense and very well characterized the prose. Revealing and tasteful, this is one that I will need to watch again and again to really get.
