Can we all govern? Us Now looks at how 'user' participation could transform the way that countries are governed. It tells the stories of the online networks whose radical self-organising structures threaten to change the fabric of government forever. Us Now follows the fate of Ebbsfleet United, a football club owned and run by its fans; Zopa, a bank in which everyone is the manager; and Couch Surfing, a vast online network whose members share their homes with strangers.

I liked some of the ideas and hope people learn to use the power of the Internet, but, I didn't like this. The pacing was too ADHD for me.

I loved this movie. I give it an A+. It totally dovetails with work I'm doing regarding modern political philosophy. I've already begun recommending it to others. :)

this was great! i was amazed at how this way of thinking has already started to be applied in real life! i always thought that the whole community helping others on a large scale really was around open-source software. i can really see this working for much larger scales and really do hope so. im already promoting the hell outa this because this really should be the way of the future. i think the main problem is people are to scared to really stand up to try and make a change but as you can see from the film there are many ways in which you will not be singled out or attacked that can allow you to do that.

I have had this type of government in mind for quite some time. It's great someone has finally progressed the idea into an informative video. I look forward to seeing even more decentralized governance movements in the near future.

Wow.. amazing documentary. I can only hope that before I die of old age that I live to see the rise of a true democratic government directly controlled by the people using the technology at hand. Truly spectacular documentary great work guys.

An excellent documentary showing a lot of possibilities. Whether mandate by the masses turns into rule by the lowest common denominator is a question that needs answering of course - would slavery be abolished or the NHS exist under such a system?

In order for governance to change like this, it has to be shown as better than the alternative, or at least more attractive. The reasons people aren't involved in politics are: not enough time, it's boring, and it's full of assholes.
This idea of direct democracy seems to just be more of the worst. More time needed, more bureaucratic, and more assholes getting in a word. What exactly are the benefits, that I can do it through a computer? Wrong answer.
People get into politics because they want to vent emotionally in person at other people, or want to be associated with righteousness, or want to leverage their private resources through public policy. The question we should be asking is how do we harness these natural forces into good policy.

@deptacon: That's not socialism. I think it's a kind of political position of centre-left, something similar. But it's not even that, it's not a position, just an idea, a vision.
Maybe not a whole new model of government, but a bigger participation of the people in its decisions.
Nice docummentary, seems to be a pleasing future.
