In 2007 the New South Wales government suddenly scrapped a plan to utilise the water in the disused underground train tunnels beneath Sydney. In 2008, chasing rumours of a government cover-up and urban legends surrounding the sudden backflip, investigative journalist Natasha Warner led a crew of four into the underground labyrinth. They went down into the tunnels looking for a story - until the story found them.

This is the film of their harrowing ordeal. With unprecedented access to the recently declassified tapes they shot in the claustrophobic subway tunnels, as well as a series of candid interviews with the survivors, we come face to face with the terrifying truth.

This never before seen footage takes us deep inside the tunnels bringing the darkness to life and capturing the raw fear that threatens to tear the crew apart, leaving each one of them fighting for their lives.

The funds we raise will go toward paying off our talented cast and crew. It is thanks to their understanding, as well as their blood, sweat and tears, that we have been able to forge ahead and not only finish The Tunnel but also put it out for you to watch for free.

Any extra money raised will go toward developing the next project so that we can hopefully keep bringing you more free online content to enjoy.

Distracted Media was established in 2010 by Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey in order to create compelling content, regardless of the medium. After many years of working together on various projects, the like-minded pair established Distracted Media to collaborate on their ideas and develop a cutting edge Australian production company.

The Tunnel is their first feature film, produced under "The 135K Project", born out of the belief that if we stop fighting the peer to peer networks, they could become the biggest revolution we have ever seen in the way we share entertainment and information.

After spending years being frustrated by what they saw as the movie industry's short-sighted and conventional outlook towards the online community, they decided it was time to try something different.

So far The Tunnel has won film festival and internet media awards and managed to combine traditional distribution with peer-to-peer, currently boasting a day-and-date distribution that includes free peer-to-peer, cable television, cinema and DVD with distributors of the calibre of Transmission Films.

I usually am pretty picky when it comes to the horror genre, especially the "free-roaming" camera films, but I was thoroughly impressed with this film. I was more creeped out the more I watched, and the sound effects/soundtrack at parts really added to the "run and DO NOT look back" sort of vibe. Overall, I thought the acting was a B+, the cinematography was an A-, and the suspense was an A+. Literally lost three hours of sleep last night, you jerks. Damn good movie.

I just watched this awesome film! I am a huge horror fan and 'The Tunnel' is already one of my favourites of the year! I jumped well out of my seat on several occasions and that very rarely happens, and I love it when it does! People keep saying that the shaky cam style is boring and overused, and that may be true, but when it's done right it is hands down the best way to scare the shit out of your audience! Great film, thank you!!

Thanks, STOOFY!! We would tend to agree with you :)

What happens at the very end of the movie? The movie stopped at the very end of the last 6 mins.

what a unique movie. sure many compare it's style to the blair witch. i found the tempo to be so unique and wonderful. as the suspense grew, and the danger came closer you felt as though time was moving slow. i think a lot of the timing derives from the start of the movie up till the entering of the tunnel. while interesting, up till that point the movie was slow in getting to the punch line. i felt as though the slow tempo stayed through out the movie. constantly i'd look at my progress, and say it's only been 15 minutes since the last time i checked to see how far i am. when the movie throws the punches the tempo works for or against the film crew. in the blair witch at times it seemed slow, and when it came time to deliver things fell apart. the timing did not enhance the climactic moments of the movie. here i feel the timing and the action worked well together. the slow pace slowly ( yet surely ) moved me closer and closer to the edge of my seat ( in fact i moved my chair RIGHT IN FRONT of my tv ). by the time the movie ended i could barely sit in my apartment i was so moved. i remember the MOMENT i finished the tunnel i at once noticed the goosebumps on my arms. i realized i was so in gulped in the movie that i hadn't even notice how truly frightened i was. what a top notch movie!

Wow. Those are the kind of comments filmmakers live for.

the one that I have downloaded has an error on its will play then stop, play then stop again. I think there are a lot of problems with your video and it end up like a compilation of crashed pictures. Are there any solutions?

on June 11, 2011 at 12:04pm

How are you playing it? PS3 tends to do that with mkv files - try a different player to what you're using? Or maybe it's a corrupt download?

on June 09, 2011 at 6:12am

Awesome!! Edge of the seat movie!!! As a "horror" movie buff.. I totally enjoyed this movie.. had you thinking about what was behind every corner... particularly filming in the "dark" made it that more terrifying...

Bel you killed it with you true to life fear, which definitely came through to me as the viewier, I was definitely right there with you, experiencing everything you were feeling...

Bring on the next movie guys...

on June 11, 2011 at 12:03pm

I'll make sure Bel gets your comments - thanks for the high praise!

Due to a similar documentary style, I think it's inevitable this film will be summarized as the "Australian 'Blair Witch Project'" (a film I thought was great at what it was intended to be.) I think that's actually a good way to summarize "The Tunnel" in 4 words, but it is a unique story - and is actually better in many ways.

Funny memory: when I saw Blair Witch opening weekend, right after the screen went black, practically the entire audience let out a disappointed sigh. If they had seen "The Tunnel" instead, I think the reaction would have been better.

The story has a good balance between the anticipation and excitement. There's enough character development to make me care about them, but not so much that it takes away from the "meat" (heh-heh) of the story. The setting of a "secret" underground world hits a deep (must. stop. puns.) internal curiosity. The fact it's in Australia makes it easier for me (an American who has never been there) to believe - there are *lots* of strange creatures there after all.

Kudos to everyone involved with the film, they clearly know what they're doing. Very very very worth the download. Expect my donation shortly.

When I was installing Utorrent on my Laptop, a strange thing happened....a movie download popped up.I was sitting there scratching my head wondering where the hell did this come from. Instead of deleting the torrent, I chose to check out the source. I was becoming more intrigued by the minute and before clicking the Download button I had actually joined I'm not going to say much about this movie and its content because I think its without doubt the best movie I have seen this year. Thank you Vodo for bringing this to me because I'm not sure if I would have been sitting here going through such contrasting emotions otherwise. Also I would like to thank BENJIBOY87 for the reality check regarding the disclosure in the closing credits... at least I can sleep now !!
BRAVO!! to all involved in the making of The Tunnel.

Thanks Tiago!

We have had the film officially translated into Spanish for the DVD, but I can't seem to find any fan-made Portuguese subtitles unfortunately.

I found this movie free while I was working on a project and looking for some details related to my that time I thought, it could be some kind of ghost and spirit based movie........But when I watched it no kidding…. I wasn’t able to go to my basement store. what a crap movie... full of pathetic lies.

on June 09, 2011 at 6:18am

Let's see you do better Ratatilor!! Get a life... and trust me... DON'T become a movie critic, your lack of why you didn't enjoy the movie is in itself "pathetic"..

on May 31, 2011 at 10:44am

I'll be right honest. Going into watching this movie, I didn't have any idea what to expect. I mean, I hadn't read any reviews, hadn't heard any comments, heck, I didn't even know what genre it fell under. So, I'm sitting here watching what seems to be just a documentary of some film crew investigating some government program, and the next thing I know I'm half an hour from the end with the movie paused, pacing around my living room because I can't believe what I'm watching. The film was so compelling, that after just an hour I had forgotten all about that list of actors in the opening credits. This was real to me. I actually sat through the ending credits thinking "What the hell happened after that???" until I saw the disclaimer in the last few seconds and was brought back to reality.

The Tunnel is by and far the most compelling and immersive thriller that I have seen in recent times, if not in my whole life.

A glowing review, BENJIBOY87. We're glad you had a memorable experience with The Tunnel :)

Well been looking forward to this for a long time......donated a good while back in 2010 via 15 frames or so, glad to finally see it come out. Question, is it more important that this film does well from the dvd sales or this donation website?

on May 31, 2011 at 4:08am

Thanks for your support!

To answer your question, it's important that the film gets enough revenue to finish paying off the crew. Wether that's by buying frames, DVDs, or Vodo Donations is entirely up to you.

It's all about having options :)

on May 28, 2011 at 1:35pm

this was a great movie, I donated 30 dollars because I believe that they needed to be paid for their work, keep up the great work crew , you deserve all that is coming to you........

on May 29, 2011 at 3:11pm

Thanks so much for that - we intend to :)
