In 2007 the New South Wales government suddenly scrapped a plan to utilise the water in the disused underground train tunnels beneath Sydney. In 2008, chasing rumours of a government cover-up and urban legends surrounding the sudden backflip, investigative journalist Natasha Warner led a crew of four into the underground labyrinth. They went down into the tunnels looking for a story - until the story found them.

This is the film of their harrowing ordeal. With unprecedented access to the recently declassified tapes they shot in the claustrophobic subway tunnels, as well as a series of candid interviews with the survivors, we come face to face with the terrifying truth.

This never before seen footage takes us deep inside the tunnels bringing the darkness to life and capturing the raw fear that threatens to tear the crew apart, leaving each one of them fighting for their lives.

HOW WE WILL SPEND YOUR MONEY

The funds we raise will go toward paying off our talented cast and crew. It is thanks to their understanding, as well as their blood, sweat and tears, that we have been able to forge ahead and not only finish The Tunnel but also put it out for you to watch for free.

Any extra money raised will go toward developing the next project so that we can hopefully keep bringing you more free online content to enjoy.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Distracted Media was established in 2010 by Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey in order to create compelling content, regardless of the medium. After many years of working together on various projects, the like-minded pair established Distracted Media to collaborate on their ideas and develop a cutting edge Australian production company.

The Tunnel is their first feature film, produced under "The 135K Project", born out of the belief that if we stop fighting the peer to peer networks, they could become the biggest revolution we have ever seen in the way we share entertainment and information.

After spending years being frustrated by what they saw as the movie industry's short-sighted and conventional outlook towards the online community, they decided it was time to try something different.

So far The Tunnel has won film festival and internet media awards and managed to combine traditional distribution with peer-to-peer, currently boasting a day-and-date distribution that includes free peer-to-peer, cable television, cinema and DVD with distributors of the calibre of Transmission Films.

I finally got around to watching it yesterday. Very good. Reminds me of Lovecraft in the buildup and the increasing suspense. And how the best bits are left to the imagination. Not enough of that these days.

Great work guys! This just proves great work Can be done with limited funding and it's a clear 'In your face!!' to producers who have the funding but lack imagination.Thank you and wait to see more.

I bought a bunch of frames at the time they were shooting it, and downloaded it some time ago already. I kind of delayed watching it until I was in the mood for a horror movie.

Now that I did, I can say that it's really good! Very realistic.
Without doubt one of the must see movies on Vodo.

Normally, I don't do the horror thing.

But, I went out on a limb and made an exception for this film simply due to all the hype that surrounds it.

Boy, I was sure glad I did - the hype was not hyperbole :)

Best thing about this film was the Visual FX opener & closer...the rest was a news story @ best. Shame really was expecting more?

First of all I have to say that this is a great movie!!

I've reed all of the comments here but I still don't know of it is fiction or this actually happened. So now I have to find out, just to bee 100 % sure!
So is this fiction where the director just wants us to belivie that it's a documentary? Or is it a documentary and have these things really happened?

I spent WEEKS downloading this on satellite internet, only to find that the movie wont play. The sample plays, but not the movie. Thanks for nothing.

Downloaded in a couple hours. Plays just fine with VLC media player (available free) , also played just fine on a Samsung led directly from my USB drive; the TV software has never been updated. I'm sorry that your experience wasn't as satisfactory, but there are options for you. It's kinder to explore those options before hastily posting a negative response. Good Luck!

Maybe you should try a Force Re-check by pointing uTorrent at the directory (or whatever client you used to get it). Or as GHOST suggested, try a different media player [VLC or Media Player Classic Home Cinema]. "Thanks for nothing" is a bit overboard and dramatic, ya know, considering the other 700,000+ people that downloaded this fine film, including myself, have had no issue playing it what-so-ever.

Wow! What an amazing and awesome movie! I love the mockumentary style, the background story, the actors, the music, the make-up, the eerie atmosphere! Everything is perfect and well-done in "The Tunnel"! Hope you'll make a sequel!
Also I like the idea of the legally downloading too.
I'll deffinitely recommend this movie to my friends!

A "the Tunnel" fan from Hungary :)))

Hello Hungary!!

We might be doing a sequel - if we can come up with a story worthy of one.

Thanks!

distractedmedia

Um... not a real documentary...

:)

But flattered that you might think so!!

lunamonkey

(Not a spoiler)

Does anyone know what the medic was doing hanging around at the end of the movie? He seemed to be either unrelated to the scene or there by accident like he thought he was off screen.

distractedmedia

on June 20, 2011 at 3:33am

Medic?!

There's a tradesman in the background with a toolbox? Is that who you mean?

lunamonkey

on June 27, 2011 at 10:39pm

Sorry, the colours look like a medic to me (UK). I guess that explains it. Thanks.

This movie was so good and had me almost swallowing my whole fist throughout the movie. I seriously almost puked as I was so freaked out lol. At first I thought this was real, and I had to check more into it to find out if it was or not. Very amazing job on this film. Wow is all I have to say. Now to watch it again with my wife, and then again with friends. Thank you so much for the great movie! I better go watch some kids television on cable now so that I can get some sleep lol.

distractedmedia

LOL! Please don't devour your own fist or throw up on our account. But we appreciate the sentiment :)
