Brendon Grimshaw, a British national, was editor to some of the most important newspapers in Africa. But in 1972, he gave it all up to go and live on Moyenne Island, which he purchased for ten thousand pounds. In the thirty-six-years that he has lived on the island, Brendon and his friend, Rene Lafortune, planted sixteen-thousand trees, built 4,8 kilometers of nature paths, and brought and bred 109 giant land tortoises, creating an island of incredible beauty now worth 34 million Euros. Come with us on this journey and discover why this 82-year-old man fears his island will one day be destroyed.

I live in Mauritius and this film was really easy for me to relate to. "Only" 1750km of Indian Ocean separate me and this wonderful man who, yes, I'd like to meet :) How can I organise? Offering to pick up endless amounts of coconut fronds just to spend some time chatting with this wise old soul xx

Confused why I just paid $3 to have 5 days to watch this when I could've downloaded it here for free? Not that I mind paying because I support the cause but why do both?

Sorry you didn't see the torrent option before paying the $3. We do both options because we'd still like to make back some of the money we spent making the film and also because not everyone actually knows how to use a torrent. I know that's hard to believe, but it's true. Regardless, I'll make the torrent option stand out more on the Watch page so that something like this doesn't happen again :)

I cannot wait to watch this! I am not understanding what I have to do to be able to download and watch this. Can anyone explain this to me?

Thank you!

First you need a torrent application. Personally, I use Bittorrent http://www.bittorrent.com/

Then you just click on download (top right of this page) and it should open automatically in the application. Hope that helps

ATTN: Facebookers, et al! Interested in promo'ing a cause via film? An indie film fan wishing to supp't the independent spirits who make'em? VODO.NET is the site for you!
In "A Grain of Sand," Mr. Grimshaw ("Brendon" -- for by film's end the viewer knows the Heart of this man), a former wolrld reknowned editor, gave up everythg to create & then live in this veritable Garden of Eden.
He makes the point, sev'l times thruout the movie, he doesn't believe "most" people would do w/o the 'modern conveniences' his island won't provide -- especially "a wife."
(I think he's sorely missing the mark where today's women are concerned... I, for one, would give up all I have ('cept my dog - LOL) to live such an existence!)
He also makes a point of the difficulty transporting ppl to & from his island for the help needed to maintain it... again, a miscalculation. I know many a "tree-hugger" who would try *swimming* to it, once s/he knew the beauty awaiting them on "other end of the rainbow..." A virtual paradise on Earth.
But developers are infringing upon his island, wishing him to sell out for yet another mega resort & as his time grows short, wonders not only how much longer he can care for his island alone, who, if any, will take his place when he Passes & the ultimate fate of this wondrous little pc of Heaven on Earth.
In light of the Global Revolut'n happ'ning rt now, as I write this, will it be too late for Moyenne Island or will we awaken & see the REAL riches of Our Mother, the Earth in time to save Her?
A MUST SEE for EVERYONE who Loves this Planet. (Hang on, Gaia! "We" are Coming!)

such an important touching movie about the simple life and values we are fast losing in the world today . I am happy I will not be around for the next hundred years. will there be any trees in the year 2111?

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the film. I don't think any of us know what the world will be like in 2111. It's still too early to give up hope and the one thing that is certain is that nothing will change unless we do something to change it :)

Fascinating look into the life of a man I'd never heard of, who has dedicated his life to living in a place I never knew existed. Anyone who has ever dreamed of owning an island should definitely watch this.

Hopefully there is more to come - there's very obviously more story to tell about this man and the place he lives.
